Operation Modes
NORMAL
This is the default mode of operation and occurs when the Charge Bypass Switch is in the center position. When the Hybrid Module engine is first started, the engine will be in an idle setting. No power is being generated and the engine is operating at a relatively low RPM. When the pilot arms the system, the flight controller automatically triggers the run setting and the Hybrid Module will begin actively regulating the on-board voltage to sustain the power needed for flight.
CHARGE (BYPASS)
When the system is on the ground, and the X55 is not armed, there may be a situation where the on-board battery voltage is lower than desired for takeoff. This could happen, for example, if the system was left on (XT90 On/Off key plugged in) for a long time without going into the RUN Operation Mode. Since the flight controller and electronics all use power when they are active, the battery voltage will slowly drop if the system is turned on, but not in the RUN state. The Hybrid Module can be put into the CHARGE state by flipping the Charge Bypass Switch upwards. When this is done, the Hybrid Module will begin charging the on-board batteries. The green Status LED will blink slowly to indicate that charging is happening. When charging has completed, the LED will show a solid green color. At this point, you can flip the switch back to the normal (centered) position.
OFF (KILL)
This mode is triggered either by switching the Charge Bypass Switch to the downward (off) position. The downward position of this switch kills the engine. In order to start the engine again, the switch will have to be returned to the center (normal) position.
