Failsafes, Errors and Warnings

The X55 has a number of failsafe mechanisms to safeguard the system and give the operator warning in the event that something unexpected happens with the Hybrid Module. For example, if you allow the Hybrid Module to run out of gas during flight and the engine dies, the default failsafe action will have the aircraft land as soon as possible. The failsafe triggers and actions are fully customizable. It is strongly recommended to keep the factory settings unless absolutely necessary.

The Hybrid Module also has built-in self-diagnostic capabilities that are constantly running in the background to monitor the status and health of the system. These diagnostic features are segregated into three categories:

  1. Warning - not an immediate concern, but reaching a level that if left unaddressed, could cause more serious problems.

  2. Error - an immediate concern. The parameter in question exceeds normal limits and should be addressed immediately by taking appropriate action.

  3. Sensor failure - Generally not an immediate concern. The system has detected that a sensor is no longer functioning or providing data that is expected or within the normal range of operation.

Any warning, error, sensor failure, or failsafe action will trigger a corresponding message on the controller and GCS, which will alert the operator as to what is happening so they can take appropriate action.
