Startup and Operation

Startup

Assuming the Herelink controller has been previously configured for operation with this setup, the proper startup steps are as follows:

  1. Power up the Herelink controller.

  2. Turn on the Herelink controller WiFi hotspot.

  3. Recommended: Setup and initialize the RTK base station (see X55 Operation Manual for details).

  4. Power up the X55 (according to normal procedures found in the X55 Operation Manual) and wait for the system to fully initialize (about 10-15 seconds).

  5. Recommended: Wait 5-10 minutes for the OGI sensor to fully cool. There is a small compressor that runs vigorously at first, but calms down after the system has reached a certain temperature. We recommend waiting until this happens before proceeding, since the vibration can interfere with the gimbal’s stabilization capabilities.

  6. Push briefly and release the “CAM” button on the Herelink. This will activate the gimbal and it will initialize.

  7. Turn on the tablet or laptop that is running the AerialOGI software and allow it to boot up.

  8. If not already done, connect the tablet or laptop to the Herelink’s WiFi network and make sure it’s set up to connect automatically.

  9. The AerialOGI software should open automatically when the tablet boots up and it should connect to the OGI sensor.

Operation

Assuming the startup steps have been completed and you have a connection with the AerialOGI sensor on the OGI Viewer software on the tablet/laptop, follow these steps for operation.

  1. Do a normal pre-flight check and takeoff with the X55, according to the Operation Manuals.

  2. Once in the air, use the scroll wheel on the Herelink to pitch the sensor up and down. Use the yaw of the aircraft to yaw your field of view of the sensor.

  3. When you are ready to begin your mission, start recording (hit the “Record” button).

  4. Once you see an area of interest that you need to capture, hit the “Capture” button on the OGI Viewer software.

  5. Finish your mission and then hit the “Record” button again to stop recording.
